Jackson County Historical Center and Society - 1616 Edith Street, Murphysboro, IL.  Hours: Wednesday and Friday noon to 3:00 p.m.; Thursday noon to 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Local history.  Send email for admission information.
Kinkaid Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area - 52 Cinder Hill Drive, Murphysboro, IL 62966, 618/684-2867.  Picnicking, fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities.  Call for hours and admission information.

The General John A. Logan Museum - 1613 Edith St. in Murphysboro, IL 62966, 618/684-3455.  Hours:  March 1 to May 31 and September 1 through November 30: Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; June 1 to August 31: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; December 1 through February 28/29: by appointment only; Special Hours for certain traveling exhibits - see web site for details.  Admission:  Suggested donation: $2/adult, $1/child.  Reservations should be made if your group is of 10 or more people.  History of General Logan and his role in the Civil War, local area history, living history events, and much more.
