Chain O Lakes State Park - 8916 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL 60081, 847/587-5512.  Picnicking, camping, horse rental (May through October), and lots more.  Handicapped-accessible area at Pike Marsh North Picnic Area.
Cuneo Museum and Gardens Vernon Hills, Illinois - (formerly Hawthorn-Mellody Farms) 1350 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Vernon Hills, IL 60061, 847/362-3042. Has a variety of tour packages (mansion, musuem, grounds passes, etc) with varying ticket prices.  Call for details or see web site.
Deerfield Community/Historical Society - corner of Deerfield and Kipling Roads, Deerfield, IL  847/948-0680.  Tours available Sundays 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. from June through September.  Group tours avaible at other times by appointment - call for info.  Site includes Caspar Ott Log House, George Luther House, and Little Red Schoolhouse, with exhibits and artifacts about early settlements in the area.
Didier Farms - 16678 W. Aptakisic Rd, Prairie View, IL 60069, 847/634-3291.  Various activities throughout the growing season, culminating in Pumpkin Festival in October. Call for times and days of operation.
Illinois Beach State Park - Lake Front, Zion, IL 60099, 847/662-4828.  Hours: Sunrise to 8 p.m. Picnicking, camping, hiking/jogging/biking trails, boating, and lots more.
Jack Benny Center for the Arts - 39 Jack Benny Dr., Waukegan, IL 60087, 847/360-4740. Live theater, opera, performing arts classes.
Gurnee Theatre - 4374 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, IL 60031, 847/623-7788, ext. 4910.  See web site for current calendar, productions, and ticket prices.
Health World Children's Museum - 1301 South Grove Avenue, Barrington, Illinois 60010, 847/842-9100. "Hands-on" health education museum for children. Call for hours and group reservations.
Heller Nature Center - 2821 Ridge Road, Highland Park, Illinois 60035, (847) 433-6901. Offers set as well as customized programs. Programs are offered onsite (for students to travel to our facility) as well as outreach (us traveling to the students). Our facility is located in Lake county, however we serve all areas. Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Grounds open dawn to dusk daily.
Lake County, IL Forest Preserves Programs and Facilities:
    Greenbelt Cultural Center - 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, IL  60064, 847/968-3477.  Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Site for a variety of cultural events, including performing arts, children's programs and educational programs.
    Lake County Discovery Museum - Lakewood Forest Preserve, Route 176 and Fairfield Road, Wauconda, IL 60084, 847/968-3400.  Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays are discount days.  Call for admissions charges; Tuesday is discount day.
    Ryerson Conservation Area - 21950 Riverwoods Road, Deerfield, IL p; 60015, 847/968-3321.  Hours: Monday - Saturday 9 am to 5 pm, Sunday 11 am to 4 p.m.  Designated Illinois Nature Preserve with many buildings listed with the National Register of Historic Places.  Art exhibits, natural science library,  etc.
Lakes Region Historical Museum  - 817 North Main, Antioch, IL  60003, 847/395-7337 (phones answered Saturdays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. only).  Regular hours Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., but group arrangements can be made.
Lambs Farm -  14245 W. Rockland Road, Libertyville, IL  60048, 847/362-4636.  Non-profit organization serving adults with mental disabilities.  Facility includes petting zoo, mini-train rides, mini-golf, pony rides, and lots of other fun, educational activities for kids. Call for hours of operation and events calendar.
Marriott Theatre - 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire, IL 60069, 847/634-0200. Theatre for Young Audiences is presenting Jack and the Beanstalk 10/3-10/26/2003. Group rates available; see web site for details.

Quig's Orchard, Inc. - 300 S. Rte 83, Mundelein, IL 60060, 847/566-4520. Open all year Tuesday through Sunday.  Pick your own apples, greenhouse, seasonal activities.

Volo Bog State Natural Area - 28478 W. Brandenburg Road, Ingleside, IL 60041, 815-344-1294. Illinois Nature Preserve and National Natural Landmark.  Lots of educational opportunities, including guided tours and astronomy nights.  Call for details and scheduling.
