Alton Museum of History and Art -2809 College Avenue, Alton, IL 62002, 618/462-2763.  Hours: Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Call for admission information.  Local history, including Alton's role during the Civil Ware.
Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site - Collinsville Road, Collinsville, IL (mailing address: 30 Ramey Street, Collinsville, IL 62234),  618/346-5160.  Open daily 8:00 a.m. to dusk.  Interpretive Center Hours: daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Both are closed New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Veteran's Day, General Election Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  Admission: free, but suggested donations are adult/$2; child/$1.  All lectures are free, but some workshops have materials fees.  Guided tours, self-guided tours, special programs and events, and other opportunities.  See web site or call for details.
Glen Carbon Historical Museum - 124 School Street, Upper Floor, Glen Carbon, IL  62034,  618/288-1549.  Hours: Wednesday noon to 4:00 p.m. or by appointment.  Call for admission information.  Local area history, including archaeological information.
Horseshoe Lake State Park - 3321 Highway 111, Granite City, IL  60240, 618/931-0270.  Hiking, camping, picnicking, and other outdoor activities.  Call for hours and admission information.
