Vermilion County Field Trip Ideas

Catlin Heritage Museum - 210 North Paris Street, Catlin, IL  61817, 217/427-5766.  Hours: Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to noon, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Admission is free.  Local history.
Danville Junction Chapter National Railway Historical Society and Museum - 210 E. Benton Street, Rossville, IL (mailing address: P.O. Box 1013, Danville, IL 61834).  Open on weekends Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Danville Symphony Orchestra - 1021 North Vermillion Street, Danville, IL  61832, 217/443-5300.  Four major performances as well as youth/community outreach performances.  The 2005-2006 season includes Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. Call or see web site for ticket information.
Kickapoo State ParkMiddle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area  and  Harry "Babe" Woodyard State Natural Area - 10906 Kickapoo Park Road, Oakwood, IL 61858, 217/442-4915.  Hiking, picnicking, fishing, scuba diving, riding stable, and other outdoor activities (watch out for poison ivy - per warning on web site).  Call for hours and admission information.
Vermilion County War Museum - 307 N. Vermilion, Danville, IL  61832, 217/431-0034.  Hours:  Tuesday through Friday Noon to 3:00 p.m.; Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; other hours by appointment.  Recommended donation: $2/adult; $1/child under 18; Educational tours by school groups free.  United States military history from the American Revolution to Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Collections of uniforms, field equipment, and more.
